right, well each year me & a group of lads head off to wildfoods dressed in some ridiculous theme.. this year it was someones dumb idea that we all go as Japanese whalers. So im busy trying to find the right attire, then I thought o might as well see if anyone heres insane enough to know where im likely to find the following items:

1) fake blood (or something to dye the overalls with.. is red dye appropriate?)
2) Japanese bandana

also any other suggestions as to how to make this somewhat difficult outfit look more authentic are welcome.

You HAVE to speak Japanese and when someone gets in your way you have to ram them with something.

White freezing works gumboots, overalls, maybe some yellow PVC wet weather geat (sou-wester instead of bandanna?) given that it's west coast so the weather will be crap!

Bandanna - martial arts supplies (or just get a white one and paint it).
Harpoon - cut out of MDF, paint brown and cover the head in tinfoil.

Oh and paint a scoreboard on the overalls like fighter aces used to do on their planes with a row of little whale 'kills'. Very Happy

You done this before dave?? Laughing

I went to wildfoods in 'topgun' theme once. Good times had by all. Except maybe the sheep who sacrificed their mountain oysters.

I might be going as 'army men'.

Hope you've got white overalls cos any old thing will dye them. Blue overalls would probably need red paint cos they probably wouldnt dye.

If that doesnt work out you can always go for the big thick blue jerseys and bottles of methylated spirits look.

i think we were planning on having one of us as a whale.. but then we also had the idea to idea to re-enact a whale slaughter in the middle of wildfoods with whoever was dressed as said whale... so not sure if anyones keen anymore.

So far i now have blood stained (red dye) overalls, boots, and a tattery old cloth head band that im sure whalers are bound to wear. Just need to find me a harpoon... :p

thinking i might make some kind of wooden cigar.. perhaps its a rash assumption but i've always pictured whalers smoking away like chimneys.. plus its going to the defining factor that separates me from looking like a slaughterhouse worksman

I've got two wooden tobacco pipes if you want to borrow them. More 1800's Whalers than 2000's Japanese Whalers though.
