Continuing the proud GuardCon tradition, and taking the place of the original Games Workshop Auckland GT, the Auckland City Guard is proud to bring you GuardCon 2010.

Tournaments included this year:

* Fields of Blood Fantasy
* NZ HARDCORE Warmachine/Hordes
* Lord of the Rings NZ Grand Tournament

The cost to enter an event is $35 until the 20th of August, then $45 up until the 3rd of September. Late entries after this time at the TOs discretion.

The event will have catering on site, lots of prizes on offer, and a Saturday night poker event. Spectators are welcome.

Thought I'd pass this info on incase it helps someone.

A regement box from the UK online store is 18 pounds (NZ$38.54).
A regement box from toyworld is $57.

That's how much cheaper is to order from games workshop with the current currency conversion.

Suprised me, but when toyworld was charging me just under $30 for a character model on foot I decided to check out if this was right...

A fairly accurate (from my point of view) review of Wargames Factory and Gripping Beast Vikings.

The review is perhaps slightly overkind to the sculpting of the Wargames Factory figures; they are a bit crude, although I have noticed that the Gripping Beast ones, although better detail on a piece by piece basis, sometimes don't fit together quite as well as the Wargames Factory ones.

One thing I have found useful in having a box of both is that the Warlord Games box has heaps of extra arms with open hands, and the Gripping Beast box has a lot of extra weapons, with and without hands attached.

As I am trying to arm my guys with as many axes as possible, I have been able to remove sword and spear hands from Gripping Beast arms, attach a Wargames Factory open hand, and then glue in spare axes.

As those guys are for a WoC WHFB army, I'm not too concerned with historical accuracy and some marauder horseman and dwarf ranger axes can be used as well, which work fairly well as great weapons

Augusts Saturday Skirmish

Tim and I are working out Augusts Skirmish Calander and are wondering how much interest there is in a Warmachine/Hordes skirmish and which date it shopuld be - current options are the 7th (only a week after Tempest) or the 14th (same weekend as Call to Arms)

Dark Eldar rumors i found

i was realy bored between lectures today and so was trawling the net and found these rumors on http://www.belloflostsouls.net concerning the dark eldar, and was wondering if anyone else had heard anything similar:

-new army wide rule: some cross between epidemus's tally and the red thirst, like the more you kill the better your squads become.
-most dark eldar weapons will either be poisoned or lance
splinter rifle range: 12", S 2, AP 5, rapid fire and poisoned (+4)
splinter pod range: 18", S 3, AP 5, assault 2 and poisoned (+4)
splinter cannon range: 24", S 2, AP 5, assault 6 and poisoned (+4)
-a melta lance with S 6
-some new vehicles alongside the raider and ravager, but nothing better than AV 11 like in the old rules
-talos still their, but has been modified to be like a dreadnaught hunter
-mandrakes now have scout instead of their old rule
- warriors and wyches are troops choices

and a massive rumor that over the last 2 years work has been done over the ENTIRE dark Eldar range, and that almost all kits are to be replaced over a 3 month period after release late 2010, also rumors say the warriors are a lot better proportioned and look mint

i dont know wether to trust these, so want to know if anyone else has heard any rumours to back them up. would love it if it is true couse i have always liked the dark eldar concept, if not the minitures

For those who haven't seen them yet, Phil Barker's latest rules effort is available on his website: Horse, Foot & Guns (.doc file), and army lists for it here.

He's trying to create a ruleset that will accommodate any large land battles from 1701 to 1914; a pretty ambitious task to say the least. How successful he's been is debateable; I've skimmed the rules but haven't actually played with them.

First Game of 8th Ed Lizardmen review

So finaly got round to my first game of 8th and really enjoyed it. Was a good laugh and alot of damage.

First fight was against vampires which went really well, for me anyway lol.
1600pts with slann with life, cupped hands. BSB scarvet, block saurus, block temple guard, ancient steg, sally, terradons and 2 units of skinks with javs.
Cupped hands rocked, got his vamp to miscast and lose a level being only level 1 took him out of game, magic wise.
The 2 units of skinks one 2x6 other 2x12 held there own by harrsing with javs.
Sally is almost a must being able to march and fire so two would be nice if i could fit it in.
Saurus rocked with BSB scarvet and slann boosting them with lore of life eg . toughness 6 saurus anyone?
Terradons didnt really do much would be better vs war machines.
Over all hard list with the level 4 dealing out Damage and boost. I did roll well for my powerdice which did help. if I hadnt it would have been a very differnet story.
